Barbara Plavnicky, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor / Psychotherapist
Barbara holds a Master of Clinical Counseling degree and is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Connecticut.
Clinically trained at University of Saint Joseph, Barbara's training focused on working with adults on issues of ADHD, substance use or other addictions, eating disorders, anxiety, OCD, or Bipolar, mood, or depression, self esteem, impulsivity, Trauma, grief and loss, and much more.
Barbara's approach developed during her academic and experiential work as well as many diverse post graduate trainings. This training includes a rich foundation in:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Dialectical Behavioral Skills Training (DBT)
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
She regularly attends clinical trainings to keep current on knowledge and skills relating to specific treatment approaches as well as furthering her expertise in the science of behavior, human development across the lifespan, and emotional and psychological wellness.
Barbara has spent her entire career working with adolescents. She has done clinical work at Charlotte Hungeford Hospital as a clinical intern working with individuals, couples, families, students, as well as other agency providers including DCF. Barbara has worked with a full spectrum of psychiatric disorders, serves as an adjunct professor, and is a strong advocate for students in the greater New Haven area.
Barbara is highly experienced in working closely with other medical and mental health professionals, school professionals, and other community associations to help people gain relief from symptoms while growing greater insight and awareness, reducing problematic or disruptive behaviors, improving interpersonal, family, academic, career and community functioning, and overall well being.
